The traditional “Happy New Year” greeting doesn’t sound out of place so much because it is the first Sunday of Advent. The turmoil of the world, in our hearts, families and relationships makes “happy” seem disconnected from our reality. I am grateful that the Christian new year always begins with HOPE - hope that is not dependent on circumstances. Hope that keeps us grounded when we do not see reasons to hope.
The first Sunday of the new Christian year begins at the end of time: Christ is coming and nothing on earth will stop Him. Blessed hope indeed!
Hands on!
One way to engage your congregation is to have an Advent Wreath Workshop where families create their own Advent Wreath to take home.
